Following a cold a damp Easter Sunday here is what some of the Formula Kart Stars drivers had to say about the second round of the 2011 season at Kimbolton.
Dean Macdonald – MSA Cadet – 1st
“I feel really happy compared to this time yesterday. Yesterday was a let down with mistakes from the marshals so when I went over the line I just felt so happy. I think that the move that I made on Josh [Smith] was my best one of the year so far.
“I thought when I came into the final that I can’t do anything silly that will make me lose positions or crash and lose even more points to those that I lost yesterday. It didn’t stop me making that last move though because I was determined to win.”
Josh Smith – MSA Cadet – 2nd
“I’m quite pleased but a bit disappointed as I could have got full points today so I feel as if I’ve been mugged today but hopefully there is better to come in the future. I got third yesterday, second today but next time at Formula Kart Stars it’ll be number one.”
Tom Gamble – MSA Cadet – 7th
“I started at the back of the B Final and nearly got the win. I started near the back of the A Final and managed to overtake a few at the start. From there I just kept my head down and was able to keep overtaking people and ended up finishing eighth so I’m happy with that.”
Teddy Wilson – MSA Cadet – 18th
“I’m feeling well. I’m a bit disappointed with the final but we did all we could. I’m really pleased with the second heat where I came second so to do that in my second year is really good.”
Rory Hudson – Cadet Honda – 1st
“It was a great race even though I had a disaster at the start as I dropped back because I was on the outside but I was able to get to the front. I wouldn’t have done it without my team and I want to thank the team and my dad, especially Gerard [Cox] the boss and my dad who set the kart up perfectly.”
Elliott Harvey – Cadet Honda – 2nd
“I’m really pleased. I wasn’t really expecting this after the heats I had this morning. I started ninth but got up to second at the first corner and then at the second corner I got into first but Rory caught me and passed me but I came second and I’m very happy with that. I’d like to thank David Bellchambers and all the guys at RPM.”
Harrison Huggan – Cadet Honda – 3rd
“When I was in fourth I was thinking that I wasn’t going to do it because Ewan [Bennett] was in front of me but then I overtook him and started to pull away but then Keaton [Samra] caught me and I got a bit worried and got defensive for the last few laps but I got third and I’m really happy about that.”
Ewan Bennett – Cadet Honda – 9th
“It felt really good. At one point I was leading but my teammate Rory Hudson overtook me but after the race he told me that when he saw me in the lead he said to himself ‘Oh my God Ewan is leading.’
“As for the race I would have come in the top three or four but my tyres went off towards the end. I wouldn’t have been anywhere near ninth at the end though if it wasn’t for Gerard [Cox] my team boss and all the advice he has given me.”
Inem Coker – Mini Max – 1st
“I’m so happy I don’t think it’s sunk in yet. My team manager and my mechanic made the decision to put me on wets and it was a good one.
“At the beginning I was told to get a gap and when I got the gap it started getting really scary as I thought my fuel was too low and I wouldn’t make the weight but I was fine. Its just scary being out in front in case you spin.”
Stef Charalambous – Mini Max – 4th
“It was a really good result. Mark [Campfield] took a really big risk and it worked really well and I was really happy with fourth. I’m looking forward to Ellough Park next month and this result has really built my confidence up. I’d like to say thank you to Mark and the team.”
Flashman Finneran – Mini Max – 10th
“I got a really good start and got up to eighth I think but then I put a wheel off and spun. I finished tenth. Pleased? A bit.”
Shaun Arnold – Junior Rotax – 1st
“I’m really happy to get the win because all day yesterday and both heats today I was getting smashed off at the start so to win now makes the weekend a whole lot better than it was at the start. I’m really happy and the kart was good as well.”
William Fletcher – Junior Rotax – 5th
“It was really good. I got a really good start and Luke Whitworth was putting a lot of pressure on me but I just got my head down and caught up to Jake Walker. Oli [Myers] got passed and got away. I thought I drove very consistently and I’m very happy with fifth. I’d like to thank Mark Campfield for the kart and Ricky Grice for the engines.”
Steven Handford – Junior Rotax – 7th
“I went down to the first corner and just got rammed off but I was able to get going and pass quite a few people and make my way through the field. I’m happy with where I came considering where I was at the start.”
Dan Fazzone – Junior Rotax – 9th
“It wasn’t too bad for us. We struggled a bit yesterday and through the heats. We managed just about to get round the first corner and just went on from there. We didn’t really have the pace to keep up with the leaders but we were pleased with the end result.”
Josh Collings – Senior Rotax – 1st
“The start went alright. I actually got round the first corner for once. I waited for the kart to come on and after about five laps I was able to do Sam [Ward] into the first corner by taking a tighter line and keeping off the rubber. There’s a lot more grip there but when it came to [James] Singleton we weren’t able to pass coming out of the first corner and I wasn’t as fast on the straight but I was able to get him at the last corner instead. I’m really pleased with my result at my first round at Stars.”
Ryan Norris – Senior Rotax – 3rd
“It’s not been the best of weekends and we’ve struggled a lot with grip to be honest so it’s a big learning curve. But we got to the final and it went really well so I’m happy with third and I’m hoping to carry it on through the season.”
