Porsche Carrera Cup GB Scholar Daniel Lloyd is to embark on the biggest race weekend of his life on 7th/8th July after being entered into the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup round at Silverstone – one of the chief support races to the FIA Formula One World Championship’s British Grand Prix.
Easily the most eagerly anticipated outing of his career to date, the golden opportunity to showcase his skills in front of more than 100,000 spectators on the morning of the Grand Prix itself has been made possible by Porsche GB as part of the Scholarship prize the 20-year-old won last November.
Before then, the Huddersfield racer has another high-profile engagement on behalf of Porsche GB having been confirmed as a representative of the manufacturer at the 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed this coming weekend (Friday 29th June – Sunday, 1st July).
Already establishing himself as one of the UK’s top young sportscar drivers during the first half of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship, attaining his maiden category victory in only his sixth race in the series, the biggest year of Daniel’s career suddenly got a whole lot bigger!
“These next two weeks are going to be the best of my life by a mile”, said the West Yorkshireman, “Goodwood this weekend is going to be massive, I’m really looking forward to it, but racing in the Supercup at the British Grand Prix…it really doesn’t get much better than that!
“It’s an amazing opportunity, I really want to say a massive thank you to Porsche GB and all of my sponsors too [TNT Post, TSD, Creechurch Private Wealth, Propack, TPA Yorkshire] – without them we wouldn’t be in the position to have this chance in the first place. To race against so many experienced guys in the Supercup is going to be huge for my development.”
He added: “Being part of a Formula One weekend is going to be really special, it’s not something we expected but I’m aiming to make the most of every second. There’s going to be so much to learn so I want to take as much as I can from the experience, soak up the atmosphere and really enjoy it.”
At Goodwood this weekend, Daniel will have the privilege and honour of representing Porsche on the Michelin UK stand while also piloting his Porsche 911 race car up the world-famous Goodwood Hill over the course of the three days he’ll be in attendance at Lord March’s West Sussex estate. He will run as part of the ‘Modern Endurance Racers’ class.
Reading like a who’s who of international sportscar competition, Daniel’s group includes the likes of Le Mans 24 Hours winners Tom Kristensen, Allan McNish and Guy Smith, multiple FIA GT World Champion Michael Bartels and Bernd Schneider, the most successful DTM racer of all time.
“Goodwood is a massive event”, he added, “Not just in Britain but around the world, so to be taking part on behalf of Porsche and have the chance to drive my race car up the hill really is a dream come true and a fantastic opportunity.
“When I first saw the list of names in my class for the hillclimb, I had to pinch myself – there really are some true legends. It’s a massive honour for me to have been invited and I’m looking forward to meeting as many people as possible. Hopefully I might have chance to have a look round as well!”
Goodwood Festival of Speed is second only in the UK to the Formula One British Grand Prix in terms of spectator attendance and profile. Attracting 150,000 people each year, the 2012 event begins on Thursday, 28th June, although Daniel will be in attendance from Friday to Sunday.
