The participants may have the next on-track event in Magny-Cours in their sights, but their thoughts will already be turning towards the “Grand Final” in Oschersleben: with this in mind, the drivers in the 2012 Formula BMW Talent Cup will be keen to make the most of their next test session, which takes place from 10th to 12th July on the former Formula One track at the “Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours” in France.
It is a good month since the 15 drivers learning the tools of their trade in the Formula BMW Talent Cup last climbed in behind the wheel of their Formula BMW FB02 racing cars in Valencia (ES) (video review: http://bit.ly/Valencia_2012). Since then they have undergone a three-day simulator training course in Silverstone (UK). The participants now head to Magny-Cours, where they will be greeted with an extensive programme, featuring comprehensive practical units on the racetrack and further theory courses dealing with issues including performance improvements and media relations. Over the course of the three days, the drivers are scheduled to spend more than 15 hours on the track at the “Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours”. The participants will also meet for a workshop with Performance and Enhancement Coach Prof. Dr. Dieter Hackfort from the Universität der Bundeswehr München (Bundeswehr University Munich).
Speaking about the meeting in Magny-Cours, Dirk Adorf, BMW works driver and head instructor, said: “The crucial phase in the education of this year’s participants begins in France. There is only one more on-track event before the Grand Final. Because they return to simulator training again after Magny-Cours, France is basically the penultimate outing on the track. The drivers must now put everything they have learned since the start of the programme into practice.”
The “Grand Final” takes place from 14th to 16th September as part of the DTM event in Oschersleben and is the season highlight for this year’s Formula BMW Talent Cup students. The winner of the three races in Oschersleben will receive sponsorship from BMW for a season in a higher-level racing series in 2013.
