Glastonbury based kart racer Lando Norris returns to Larkhall in Scotland next weekend as he competes in the latest round of the MSA Super One Championship. The 12 year-old currently lies second in the national campaign – just three points adrift – and is hoping to come away from the weekend with the series’ lead.Early last month Lando took victory at the Strathclyde venue to help maintain his lead in the Formula Kart Stars Championship. He knows that another winning weekend will allow him to head back home at the top of both point tables.
“It would be great to travel back home on Sunday night leading both of the national series’,” he says. “There is an extra round in Super One and this will put us just over halfway through the calendar.”
“I’m not going up to Scotland thinking about it, though. I’m going with the same plan I’ve had all year, to be as fast as I can and take as many points as possible, hopefully that will include another trip to the top step of the podium,” he adds.
The month of May and early June was a busy period in Lando’s racing calendar, with his first European race meeting – which included a trip to the podium – two rounds of both national series’ and the British ‘O’ Plate meeting all within a few weeks. The next two weekends will see him go from one point of the UK to the other, with the next round of FKS taking place in Wales in a fortnight’s time.
He has now had a couple of weeks away from the track but has been busy with other things, like being an ambassador on the FKS stand at the Goodwood Festival Of Speed this weekend. Despite the off-circuit action he is raring to get back in the kart and make the long trip back north again.
“I’m really keen to get back in the kart again now,” he smiles. “I know it’s going to be a really long and busy time between now and the end of the season. There will be a lot of hard work to do to stay in contention for both championships. It’s been good to have a couple of weekends away from racing and being able to do things like Goodwood has been fantastic, but I’m keen to get back out there and keep winning,” he says.
Lando will take to the track for testing and free-practice on Friday before qualifying and the early heats take place on Saturday. The remaining heats and the all-important point-scoring finals take place on Sunday.
