Big Bike Ride 2008

The Big Bike Ride 2008 is gearing up for an off in mid September. We’re busy arranging things and clearing out the old, but in the mean time we’ve left up our travel blog and plans for last year. Why not check them out below.

'07 Fund raising continues

The Big Bike Ride has reached its destination, but the fund raising efforts continue. We were surprised to get to the end, and delighted so many of you turned out to support us along the way. A big thank you is in order for you all.

In a sport highly focused on the winning-me and personal achievement, we were heartened by the warm and generous welcome shown by all, and amazed at the level of donations in support of others. You really did us proud!

If you haven’t made a donation to the fund for disabled karting, please put you hand in your pocket and send in what you can spare.

If you would like to take part, please get in touch with their Club Secretary, Graham Smith 01926 812177, or just turn up with your bicycle on Saturday afternoon. SKRC would also appreciate karts for display to the press.

'07 Sponsored laps at Kimbolton

The Hunts Kart Racing Club will open their track to sponsored bike riders on Wednesday 10th October from 8am to 10am. Access to the Kimbolton circuit is available from Tuesday night for overnight camping, so if you are in the area why not pop in and say hello.

'07 New race support vehical

Stuart Graham Honda have kindly provided the Big Bike Ride with an official race support vehicle. Managing Director, Mark Appleton said “I've been thinking about how we can best support Carolynn, and the use of a Honda CRV seemed ideal”.  Appleton will not only provide the Honda, but will also insure our volunteer drivers, and fuel it to the finish line. How about that for “the power of dreams”!!!

If you are over 21, and can spare the time to drive our new race support vehicle (complete with Stars livery, and flashing lights), please get in contact.

'07 LLANDOW ARRANGE EXCLUSIVE TRACK TIME
Llandow Kart Club have arranged exclusive track time for those wanting to do their sponsored bike ride around their circuit. The event, being held in conjunction with the South Wales Karting Centre, will start at 9am on Saturday 29th of September.

Club Chairman Hardy Rodde is enthusiastic of Llandow’s involvement “We want to be fully supportive of Carolynn’s efforts to raise money in aid of a good cause”.

Certainly, nobody at Llandow’s race meeting could fail to be aware of the fund raising activities, with announcements at driver’s briefing, sponsorship forms in the race programme, and money raising continuing throughout the day. Rodde went on to say “we arranged a second event for the weekend, so people don’t have to take time out of work, or school. We hope to present Carolynn with a cheque for the money raised when she starts from here next Wednesday”.

If you would like to download their sponsorship form (which gives sponsorship by number of laps completed) it is available from our sponsorship forms section

'07 THE BIG BIKE RIDE

From Bike to Karts, the sponsored Big Bike Ride

Now setting off from Llandow on October 3rd.

The BRDC Stars of Tomorrow together with the Motorsport Industry Association will be supporting Karting for the Disabled, a programme led by Karting Endeavour, who are an enthusiastic group of drivers who do not wish for their disability to get in the way of enjoying motorsport. It is hoped that the venture will give disabled drivers the opportunity to race not only in their own Championship but for those who wish to advance to MSA racing the opportunity develop their skills and confidence.

The BRDC Stars of Tomorrow hope to purchase 10 of these modified karts and transport them in the Championship's Race Control Centre, which will also need to be modified to carry these karts. We are going to need around £50,000 for this project.

Hoy hopes to raise the money by cycling from Llandow Kart Circuit near Cardiff to Larkhall in Scotland, visiting Shenington, Kimbolton and Three Sisters on the way. Her 1,000 km journey will begin on October 3rd and it will take around three weeks to complete. "I hope that the competitors will join me at various stages along the BIG BIKE RIDE as this is a brilliant project". Sainsbury’s have generously offered to to feed and water all the participants on the way and we'll be camping at night.” Championship Tyre & Truckie Official Tony Clifton, will be a support vehicle for the first stage so that cyclists will not need to carry anything other than basics.

Depending on timings and availability, it may be possible for competitors to have sponsored cycle laps around each cicuit we visit.
