KF3 Round 8 Saturday
Most of the drivers waited a few minutes to let others clean the track, but before long Callum Bowyer was setting the fastest time. With two minutes left, Macaulay Walsh vaulted to the top on his new RK kart, Bowyer keeping hold on second ahead of Roy Johnson and Russell Danzey. Walsh held station at the front of the pre-final for many laps, until Bowyer successfully challenged at the Boot. But Walsh was having none of that, and sliced straight back through up the hill, putting on a spurt and a second’s gap on Bower by the flag. Danzey had been in third throughout, with Xavier Warburton taking fourth from Jacob Stilp in the early stages. Stilp fell back and behind Paul Hardy later. Walsh had everything very much under control in the final, darting into the lead and steadily extending it to nearly four seconds, just untouchable. Bowyer had taken second from Danzey on the second lap, but then ran wide onto the grass losing two places and it took him a while to pass Warburton and close in again on Danzey with Johnson pushing him along. Johnson had to turn his attention to a defence against Warburton, succumbing at the Boot, whilst Bowyer slipped inside Danzey at Christmas Corner. Danzey now came under attack from Warburton, who grabbed third at the Boot on the last lap with a rub of sidepods, Danzey falling to fifth, yet another exciting race end.
KF3 Round 9 Sunday
Callum Bowyer and Macaulay Walsh vied for top pole in the TQ, Walsh grabbing the honour, with Ben Barnicoat a valiant third over Xavier Warburton. New champion Alexander Albon led the seventeen finalists round their parade lap, before pulling over to let battle commence. In moves on successive laps, Bowyer jumped Barnicoat and Walsh for the lead, but Danzey rolled to a stop, taking the heat out of the vice-champion fight. “When I saw Russell stopping I just richened the mixture to save the engine,” said Bowyer. So he didn’t fight too hard when Walsh scrabbled back through coming down the hill, and settled for a safe second. Barnicoat ran up inside Warburton at Christmas Corner, and held him off to the flag despite the rigours of the 29 lap race. Dylon Phibbs and Daniel Vaughan were actively trading fifth, before Paul Hardy joined the party and finished between them. The weekend belonged to Macaualay Walsh, never beaten.
