Round 8 Saturday
For Saturday’s timed qualifying, James Singleton quickly went to the top of the timing list and stayed there throughout. Seth James came up to second in the early stages, but as others got into their stride he fell to ninth. Jack Barlow slowed to make himself a space, then shot to second, followed by Harry Crawley, Bobby Thompson and Zubair Hoque. As far as the others were concerned, Singleton and Crawley were in a different pre-final, out ahead all the way through. Hoque had been muscled out of second on the first lap, and fell to fourth as Barlow went third, towing Thompson along. Towards the end a flurry of fifth place exchanges had Thompson just retrieving it from Hoque in time. In the final, Singleton again made a handy break at the start, the pack being broken up with a number of karts off at the aptly named Oblivion first corner. Crawley was swift to leapfrog Barlow for second, and cruise up to Singleton’s tail, making one serious attempt at the lead. Thereafter Singleton kept everything tidy, unfazed from the pressure behind. Thompson fell from second after a brief all course yellow, but recovered to fourth behind Barlow. Louie Marshall was unfortunate to spin, losing sixth, and allowing Jay Goodwin and Luke Hughes to have a little ding-dong for the place, the latter having sliced through from the back. Danny Sweeney had moved up to fourth, but would later be excluded for his part in the start lap incident. Barlow was pleased with his points haul, Crawley admitted he couldn’t quite get on terms with Singleton at the end, and Singleton said: “I definitely couldn’t get a better day than this.”
Round 9 Sunday
Jack Barlow vaulted over Zubair Hoque to the top of the Sunday timed qualifying list on the last lap of the session, with James Singleton a handy third over Harry Crawley. Jack Barlow executed a great sling shot at the green light, going into an immediate large lead, chased by Harry Crawley after he had snatched second half way round the first lap. James Singleton scuttled up the inside of Zubair Hoque on the second lap, whilst Ryan Norris lost fifth by taking a big grassy trip. The pace flag came out briefly to clear an incident, closing everyone up, allowing Crawley a run into the lead. Bobby Thompson managed to clear Danny Sweeney to have the opportunity at third, putting Singleton down to fourth. Crawley still had Barlow on his bumper, but the new champion wasn’t about to risk any rash move. Thompson faded slightly backing him into Singleton, who took full advantage to retrieve the final podium spot, saying: “I knew my kart would come on at the end.”
