Ed Hoy, Television presenter for Formula Kart Stars talks about how to start karting

Lewis Hamilton began his racing career here at Formula Kart Starsand in 1996 he won the MSA British Cadet Championship. At the end of the year he was invited to the Autosport Awards as part of his prize and introduced himself to McLaren’s Ron Dennis. The rest, as they say, is history.

Karting is a great way to get started in motorsport as it teaches you how to overtake, how to race and most importantly how and why a racing car does what it does.

My first piece of advice is don’t rush out and buy a kart, go and try it, you never know, it may not be for you after all. The MSA (our sport’s governing body) have a brilliant initiative called Lets Go Karting, aimed at getting people behind the steering wheel. Look on our website under “Getting started” and follow the link to the MSA’s Go-Karting site.
