Formula BMW Talent Cup, On-Track 6
This is where it really counts: the participants in the 2012 Formula BMW Talent Cup used an extra, exclusive on-track event at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz (DE) to hone their skills ahead of their biggest highlight of the season. The winner of this year’s Formula BMW Talent Cup will be determined at the “Grand Final” in Oschersleben (DE, September 14-16), when the training series shares the bill with the DTM. The driver who comes out on top after the three races can look forward to an extremely attractive prize: BMW will support them financially for an entire season in a higher-level racing series.
To give themselves the best possible chance of triumphing at the “Grand Final”, the drivers took advantage of the free track at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz, which had been booked exclusively by BMW, to make final adjustments to the set-up of their Formula BMW FB02 Racing Cars and complete another on-track day at the challenging circuit. As well as analysing specific technical data, the youngsters were also given their final fitness, performance and media training sessions. And now? “Bring on the ‘Grand Final’! The current class could hardly have reached a higher level of efficiency in all the relevant areas than they have attained now. The finale in Oschersleben promises to be extremely exciting,” says Dirk Adorf, BMW works driver and head instructor.
While the current season reaches its climax, next season’s class is already taking shape. The EuroSpeedway Lausitz was the venue for a rookie test for kart drivers and drivers with no previous experience in single-seater racing cars, as well as a full test aimed at more advanced candidates. 16 drivers from seven countries spent a day in the Formula BMW FB02 Racing Cars and completed their first exclusive training sessions with the team of Formula BMW Talent Cup instructors. The various tests are tailored to the respective levels of experience possessed by the Formula BMW Talent Cup candidates.
